Wonder

Last night I was doing a Google search on dwarfism and came across Tonya's blog. Since then, I have been getting a few more visits from others searching about dwarfism. So, check out my page links and other blog links on the side bar, if you don't feel like reading through all my nonsense.

Not knowing Tonya, yet having read some of her blog, she seems to be a living info base on all things dwarfism--but not in a boring way, at all! There really is not a lot of info out there on Evan's condition. Achondroplasia seems to be the closest, so I'm finding a wealth of info!! Thanks to all who document their journey--I learn from you.

Anyways, Tonya posted some lyrics on her blog by Natalie Merchant. Those who know me well, know that Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs are up on my list of all time favorite artists (hence the name of my blog...These Are Days to Remember). My poor roommates at BYU had to listen to her every night because that is how I fell asleep.

So, I'm borrowing from Tonya in sharing the lyrics with you, today, as I wish you all a very Happy Mother's Day. Enjoy your "wonders".

“Wonder”

Doctors have come from distant cities
Just to see me
Stand over my bed
Disbelieving what they’re seeing

They say I must be one of the wonders
Of god’s own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer
No explanation

Newspapers ask intimate questions
Want confessions
They reach into my head
To steal the glory of my story

They say I must be one of the wonders
Of god’s own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer
No explanation

O, I believe
Fate smiled and destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith
She’ll make her way

People see me
I’m a challenge to your balance
I’m over your heads
How I confound you and astound you
To know I must be one of the wonders
Of god’s own creation
And as far as you can see you can offer me
No explanation

O, I believe
Fate smiled and destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as she came to my mother
Know this child will not suffer
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith
She’ll make her way

Hey-I just stopped in to visit after Tonya shared your link. You have a lovely family! My son does not have a genetic dwarfism, but instead is undiagnosed and very small, so I consider him a little person, but really-he's just a person who's little. Anyway, I saw you are going on a cruise! Is it your first? Just you and DH or whole fam? What cruise line? We've been on 2 and are going on a 3rd this fall;-) I have lots of interest in cruises as we are now junkies snorkeling was #1 best thing I've done-ever (aside from marraige and child birth;-). Sight seeing was also a phenomenal experperience. Ok, well that was probably really lengthy for an unsolicited stranger visit:-)

That's an awesome song. I've probably heard it a million times, but I never really stopped and thought about the lyrics before.
