I knew one day that the insistence of having my kids on a "schedule/routine" would come back to bite me in the butt!
It seems that last summer went very smoothly, but maybe this is my aging mind playing tricks on me...this summer, not so smoothly!
I decided to not rush into making a summer schedule for my kids and kind of play it out this year, see how the days were going, but after 2 days of just chilling all hell broke loose! So I quickly came up with a schedule--trying to meet everyone's needs (i.e. Tyler is an early riser, Jared likes to sleep in, Mom doesn't like being woken up, ...). Well, the first morning led to all 4 kids having a major meltdown by 10 am. Tyler couldn't get all his work done "right away" because it would wake everyone up. Jared slept in and wasn't near ready to go at the right time. Evan had to use the potty before playing in the basement. Anna had to tag along to the quiet library. Pretty much, my flexible schedule was too flexible. Uggghh...I've created monsters!!!
How do I help my kids to find that balance? Tyler needs to relax a bit. Jared needs to not be so relaxed about everything. Maybe I'll get it right by the time Evan and Anna figure it all out!
Oh...and my breakdown...came after returning from the library with 4 overtired, cranky, moody kids...I hate routines!

This is where I say that, year round school is awesome! My kids are still in school until the middle of July. Gotta say, I like the shorter more frequent breaks. Good luck I know you guys will figure it out, at least by the first day of school. He, he!
Yeah, glad to see I am not the only one having so much fun. And wow, what I would give to have one of my kids like to sleep in. There is only so much to do to keep the youngins entertained. Isn't summer great.
I'm with ya sister. I couldn't get into a routine even if I wanted. You cannot hope to beat the chaous you can only hope to contain it! I'm probably preaching to choir as the mom of 3!

I too once had this genius plan, it was a really bad idea, thus the reason we try and stay busy!
Hey Andrea It's Jordyn Flowers,Katie's sister. I was just wondering how you put your friends on the side of your profile? I just started blogging and you are one of the only people I know who also has one of these. I just wish I knew how you put the links to other blogs on your page. Any help you can give me I'd greatly appreciate.
By the Way your family is just gorgeous!
Love, Jordyn
I know what you mean about routines. I feel like I make routines when things start to get crazy just so I can rebel and say I don't want to do them. It's kind of like a balance between having a routine as a back bone but the ability to not do them when you feel incroached. My really only set routines are meals and naptime/quiet time/movie time/ when I get to read or be by myself in the afternoon. The rest is pretty up in the air.
